WELCOME TO GAE

German-American Exchange e.V. [registered association] will make it possible for young German students and professionals to complete an internship and visit courses at an American university. The United States of America are an important part of this world, especially for young Europeans from Germany. Our own experiences in working with the USA over many years and resulting personal ties form an excellent starting point for a transatlantic exchange program.

objective

OUR OBJECTIVE

We aim to offer internships that help the participants to become aware of and understand the growing importance of the economic relationships between Europe and the USA. Mutual trust is reinforced, mental hurdles are surmounted and prejudices are broken down.

The exchange program gives participants clear insights into the thought process and working environment in the USA, serves transatlantic understanding and furthers personal development.
Another culture is best understood, and the language is best learned, by living in the host country for a fairly long time and engaging in dialog with native speakers every day.
The interns will thus renew the transatlantic German-American relationship and form a foundation for upcoming generations.

OUR PROGRAM

An internship in the USA is conducive to one’s career. Unfortunately, many interested students and young professionals have to look after themselves in obtaining valuable experiences abroad, because there are currently not very many possibilities for obtaining a suitable internship through a non-profit organization with a broad supporting network in the USA, which also offer the following benefits:

• Procurement of required visas
• Exclusive, free courses at recognized colleges
• Removing financial and legal barriers
• Internship places at recognized, reputable companies
• Combination of theory and practice with free university courses

statements
  • We offer not only students but also young professionals the possibility of working in the USA and enrolling in courses at a university on a part-time basis and without additional costs. Getting to know the American world of work is a “must” and helps young people to advance in their profession. They also improve their English language skills at the same time.

    Christoph Rückel
  • Nowadays, given a general lack of knowledge about the USA and an insidious, growing anti-Americanism, anyone who is deeply concerned about the German-American relationship will have to do something himself. Our approach to this situation is to simplify, subsidize, and organize American internships for German students because here we see a key to true understanding of American customers and markets. This is a competence which many German companies still need to develop.

    Mathias Käsebier
  • The German-American Exchange Program has taken on the task of helping young German professionals and students to enroll in internships in the USA that combine related academic and professional activities so that they get to know and understand America’s culture, its world of work and its traditional values, and derive benefits from this for their own professional experience and practice. This reinforces transatlantic solidarity, deepens mutual understanding and helps us to avoid erroneous assessments and break down barriers in the transatlantic relationship. Hence this exchange program makes an important contribution to fortifying and furthering the German-American partnership and friendship.

    Rüdiger Lentz
  • When I was an adolescent, I lived in the USA for several months. This made an indelible impression on me and opened many doors for my professional development. As an ardent transatlanticist, I am greatly concerned with offering other young people the chance to become acquainted with the USA from the inside out and thus to gain new perspectives about their own home country and themselves. No textbook or seminar can serve as a substitute for becoming personally acquainted on location with a country, its people and how they live and work!

    Tina Höfinghoff
  • Establishing enduring friendships in our fast -moving times is a special, pleasant concern of mine.
